Frequently Asked Questions
How much does individual therapy cost? How can I pay?
The fee per session is $235 per hour. This is the suggested rate by the British Columbia Psychological Association and is standard for registered psychologists. Dr. Beuerlein currently accepts e-transfer, cash, and credit card. Payment is due in full at end of session.
Why am I asked for a credit card in my consent form?
Dr. Beuerlein asks for a credit card to be kept on file, for the sole purposes of charging partial fee in cases of late cancellation or no-show. If you do not have a credit card (or know in advance you would prefer to pay late cancellation or no-show fees another way) please reach out to Dr. Beuerlein.
Are assessments available?
At this time, Dr. Beuerlein is not accepting assessment referrals but will update her website if and when she is able to do so.
Do you bill to insurance providers?
Dr. Beuerlein recommends that you check with your insurance provider to ensure coverage for psychological services. Dr. Beuerlein is currently able to direct bill to Pacific Blue Cross. After session, once payment is received, you will be emailed a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please note, private psychology services are not covered by the provincial health plan (MSP).
How long is a therapy session?
Sessions are booked on the hour and consist of 50 minutes of direct therapy, followed by 10 minutes for payment and charting. This is standard for psychological services.
What is your no-show/cancellation policy?
Dr. Beuerlein kindly requests 24 hours notice for cancellations, as this allows enough time for other clients to see and book the available slot. Cancellations less than 24 hours before appointment, as well as no-shows, are subject to a fee of half of a session ($117.50). You are deemed a no-show if you do not appear 15 minutes past appointment start time. A 15-minute grace period is offered as a courtesy but the appointment end time is not extended if you are late.
Do I need a physician's referral?
You do not need a referral for psychological services and can self-refer. However, please check with your insurance company as to whether they require a referral be placed (e.g., from a physician) to cover your services.
Is therapy in-person or virtual?
At this time, Dr. Beuerlein offers virtual and in-person therapy services.
What is the difference between private and public psychological services?
You may encounter psychologists, like Dr. Beuerlein, as part of the public health care system. Public psychology services are covered by your provincial health plan (MSP) and may be provided through settings such as community mental health centres or hospitals. Dr. Beuerlein's private practice is not funded through the provincial health care system.
